News channels everywhere are often seen running a segment on lottery winnings. Then, a year later there’s a piece on how their lives have changed.
As a society, we’re always curious about what their lifestyle was like before their win and how it has changed. Thus, the media leverages on our curiosity and gives a lot of attention to these lottery winners.
But did you ever realise that casino winners make as much bucks as the lottery winners?
Lucky gamers have often tried their luck and won millions of dollars by playing slots, craps, blackjack and the likes.
In this article, we’ll be talking about three lucky casino winners who’ve hit it big with their luck. What their lives were like before they won? What is it like now? How did they spend their money?
1. Cynthia Jay Brennan
It was in the year 2000 when a cocktail waitress in Las Vegas became famous after winning the biggest Megabucks jackpot. Cynthia was playing a state-wide lottery jackpot when she hit a jackpot and won $34,959,458.56.
The days following her win were absolutely wonderful as she celebrated her good luck and married her boyfriend. She had also planned to travel the world with her better half.
But unfortunately, nine weeks after her big win, as she was driving in her new car with sister Lela, a drunk driver with 16 prior arrest slammed into her car at a red light. Lela was killed on spot and Cynthia’s spine was shattered.
As of today, Cynthia is paralysed from the waist down while her husband is still working as a bartender at the Monte Carlo casino in Las Vegas.
Cynthia says that she would give her lottery money back if it meant walking again and getting her sister back.
2. Ashley Revell
Who said it’s bad to keep all your eggs in the same basket? Ashley was hanging out with his friends in a pub when one of them jokingly said that how interesting it would be to stake all your money one spin. So Ashley did just that and won.
Ashley, a 32 year old man from London had a Rolex watch, a BMW, golf clubs and 10000 pounds to his name. He sold all of that at various auctions and headed to the Plaza Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas with 80000 pounds to his name.
He initially wanted to place his bet at the Hard Rock Hotel, but negotiations with the management didn’t work out. He eventually placed the bet at Plaza Hotel & Casino and the bet was broadcasted live through the sky network.
He initially placed his bet on black but as a lot of his supporters preferred red, he changed his decision to red. As luck would have it, his stack went from 80000 pounds to 153,680 pounds.
To celebrate his big win, Ahsley travelled around Europe on his motorbike and also met his future wife in Holland. On coming back, he set up an online poker company named Poker UTD.
Even after winning so much, he still remains grounded, sipping his favourite beer in a local bar and living a happy life with his wife and two children.
3. Elmer Sherwin
Often referred as the luckiest man in Las Vegas, Elmer Sherwin remains a two time Megabucks champ.
His first victory came in 1989 when he won $4.6 million after the mirage opened on the Las Vegas Strip.
It was in 2005 when Elmer, now 92, decided to bet at Cannery Casino & Hotel in Las Vegas because he had a hunch that the machine was lucky. Well, he was right since he won $21,147,947 jackpot.
He put the money to good use by donating part of it to the Katrina Hurricane relief fund and saving part of it for his family’s welfare.
